Ways to Make Office Cleaning a Breeze
ShareFor most business owners, office cleaning is an abhorred chore. Not only does it take up a lot of your time, but also is labor intensive. This is especially true if you have been on the premises for a significant amount of time and are looking to de-clutter. However, it is still a necessary evil as productivity can be compromised in a disorganized space.
As such, it is pertinent to undertake in thorough office cleaning on a regular basis to ensure that the space is not only clean, but junk free too. Here are some of the things you can employ to make office cleaning a breeze:
Sort the items
The first step to thorough office cleaning is sorting. Start by laying out carton boxes, paper bags or your storage items of choice and labelling them appropriately. These labels could range from client records, financial records, expired documents, damaged office supplies and so on. It is to your discretion, as most of these will be thrown out anyway. Sorting allows you to have everything categorized for easy reference.
Purge the items
Once you have sorted the clutter, go through them for a second time so as to establish what can be kept and what should be gotten rid of. By having the items sorted, you know what should be thrown out and what would be required to be moved to proper storage.
When sorting, try not to cling to unnecessary documentation such as invoices that have already been paid and such as these will only add to your clutter and may not be significant for the running of your business. The rule of thumb is to try to be as unemotional as possible as this will prevent you from clinging on to items due to sentimentality. If there are items that are still in good shape but are not pertinent to the running of your business, consider donating them or having them recycled.
Assign the items
Once you have purged the items, you now have a pile of things that you still find relevant to the running of your business. The next step of office cleaning would be to assign each of the items their own space. Label the items according to where they will be stored such as drawers, shelves, folders, boxes and so on. You could even compartmentalize their assigned spaces further if it will make it easier for your storage references. This simplifies the process of putting them in storage and thus making your office cleaning a faster project.
